The 56-year-old founding member of the Newcastle rock group The Screaming Jets, Paul Woseen, passed suddenly on Thursday. Through social media, the group posted the following statement:
We regret to notify you of the passing of our beloved rock bandmate Paul Woseen this evening. We are in ruins because Paully was a brilliant, blazing light in all of our lives.
Paully’s family is in our thoughts and prayers, and we respectfully request that you honor our present request for privacy.
The revelation shocked fans because the band had been preparing to release their new album with Woseen on October 6 and to go on a long national tour from November to February.
The band, which started in the 1980s and changed their name to the Screaming Jets in 1989, just before the release of their debut album All For One and the hit song Better, had Woseen as its lone constant member.
Together with Dave Gleeson, Woseen joined the group. Woseen’s opening bass line on the song was the first he had ever played in his forty-year career.
