More Information on Peter Minshall

Peter Minshall is a legendary Trinidad and Tobago carnival artist. On July 16, 1941, he was born in Georgetown, Guyana. Peter’s parents, on the other hand, moved to Trinidad when he was young, and his father worked as a cartoonist. Minshall was exposed to Carnival as a child because he grew up in Port of Spain, a carnival hotspot.

Peter, who was fascinated by the carnival lifestyle, made his first costume when he was 13 years old. He attended Queen’s Royal College before moving to London to study Theatre Design at the Central School of Art and Design. “From the Land of the Hummingbird,” which he designed for his adopted sister Sherry-Ann Guy (Coelho) to wear for Carnival 1974, was one of his first famous costumes.

It took five weeks, 12 people, and 104 feathers made of 150 different fabrics to complete. The costume became an instant sensation and a significant icon in the Trinidad Carnival. Minshall then began creating other creative and appealing costumes, which became the focal point of several carnivals.
