According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Nichols was first stopped on January 7 for allegedly operating a vehicle carelessly.
The TBI claims that there was a “confrontation” before Nichols fled and an argument ensued.
An ambulance was sent when Nichols reported feeling out of breath. The US Department of Justice and the TBI have both opened investigations into Nichols’s death.
