Controversy And Scandal Around Pierre Poilievre
Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Canadian Conservative Party, made headlines this week when he was seen eating an apple and dodging questions about his “populist” beliefs and usage of the “Trump” playbook from a local journalist.
The discussion took place last Wednesday when Poilievre was touring an orchard in Penticton, British Columbia, with Times Chronicle Editor Don Urquhart.
Throughout the discussion, Urquhart questioned the conservative figurehead on the idea that he is a “populist” who plays on people’s emotions, much like the former US President Donald Trump.
Poilievre could be seen in the video politely dodging such descriptions and asking to know who the journalist he was referencing was. Urquhart tried to identify the leader multiple times without success, then asked more questions.
The video showing Poilievre eating an apple and ignoring the questions became viral on X within hours of its posting, garnering over 2.5 million views and sparking a great deal of conversation.
Pierre Poilievre in His Early Years
Poilievre was born in Calgary, Alberta, on June 3, 1979, to a sixteen-year-old mother and an Irish Canadian father. He was adopted by instructors Donald and Marlene Poilievre not long after he was born.
Poilievre was raised in a simple suburban house in Calgary. Along with his younger brother Patrick, whom Marlene and Donald had also adopted from their biological mother, he went camping and played ice hockey.
When Poilievre was younger, he worked as a paperboy for the Calgary Sun. He competed in wrestling at Henry Wise Wood High School until a short bout of shoulder tendinitis caused him to retire at the age of 14.
Following the accident, Poilievre’s new interest was going to meetings of the Alberta Tory Riding Association.
As a result, he started reading political books like Milton Friedman’s Capitalism and Freedom and became interested in politics, which had a big influence on his political philosophy.
