Prichard Colon Early Life
Colón, a former boxer, was born in Maitland, Florida. His father is Richard Colón, a former serviceman, and his mother is Nieves Colón. At the age of ten, the Colon family wanted to migrate to Puerto Rico. His dad moved so that Prichard could exemplify the island at the championship. Then the family settled down in the Orocovis countryside of Puerto Rico. Prichard began his high school career as well as his amateur career at the Albergue Olímpico in Salinas, Puerto Rico. In the same way, Colon was really good at what he did, so he got the nickname “Digget.” It comes from the word “digger” for his height and stature. After graduating from high school, Melendez studied business management at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Amateur Career
Throughout his amateur career, Colon was notable for winning five national tournaments in the 141-and 152-pound divisions. Not only that, but the talented player also won a gold medal at the Pan American Youth Championship in the 64 kg division. He was a hard-working boxer, and he’d won big fans all this time. Colon also fought at Brazil’s pre-Olympics and won the 2012 Summer Olympics Pass in London. Unfortunately, however, he lost a fighter from Venezuela in the last round. All of this occurred in Prichard’s amateur career. As he saw new heights of success, he decided to become a professional fighter in 2012. Colon ended his professional career with a record 170-15.
Melendez fought Xavier La Salle as an opening match. It was housed at the Cosme Beitía Salamo Coliseum in Cataño, Puerto Rico. In this way, on 23 February 2013, he made his professional entrance. After the match, the fans celebrated Colon as he knocked out LaSalle in the very first round. Prichard was well known for his edge program. It was boxed five times in 2013 and seven times in the following year. The most impressive match of the talented boxer came on September 9, 2015, when he fought against Vivian Harris, a more professional fighter. All were eagerly awaiting the fight at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The impressive display ended with Colón wiping out Harris in the fourth round. Colón was expected to fight Terrell Williams in an undercard contest at the Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, on October 17, 2015. The war was not originally part of the agenda, but it was added when Andre Dirrell quit his fight with Blake Caparello for medicinal reasons. The contest only took place one month after Prichard’s most recent fight against Vivian Harris. Melendez clashed with Williams for nine rounds, in which both fighters were penalized. Colón was penalized for a low knockback, while Williams was penalized for hitting Colón in the back of his head. In the ninth round, Williams hit Colón twice, and Colón didn’t come back for the tenth round. It was clear that Colón was disjointed and he felt faintness. After the contest, Melendez was vomited and then rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with brain blood loss. As a result of the battle, Colón went into a coma.
After a match with Terrell, Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia treated Colón as he had been in a coma for several weeks. But he wanted more specialist care, so the hospital finally moved him to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The unfortunate incident left him in a coma for 221 days, from the very moment he fought alongside Terrell Williams. Colón was relocated from the hospital to his mother’s home in Orlando, Florida.Since then, Colón has continued in a prolonged vegetative process. Prichard’s mom showed Colón’s video on her Facebook account in 2018. In that video, he took physical therapy and responded to verbal orders.
Prichard Colon Social life

He was very involved on Facebook, but after the unfortunate incident, we can no longer find him there.
