In his first film, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, Quincy Isaiah gained popularity as Magic Johnson. Isaiah’s career did not begin as an actor.
He majored in commerce while playing football at Kalamazoo College, but acting has always been his love. So, he changed his major to the theater during his junior year, and two months after graduating in 2017, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his ambition.
His path has not been an easy one. Before earning the role of Johnson in 2019, the actor had difficulty finding employment.
His athletic experience helped him gain the position, even though he had to endure rigorous training sessions with coach Rick Fox, a former member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Fox put Isaiah through several tests, but the rookie’s endurance impressed the basketball coach, allowing him to pass.
