According to an investigation conducted by the Warrington Coroner’s Court, Speed spoke to his wife a few days before he died and “spoke in terms” of committing suicide.

At five o’clock, Speed departed for his home in Huntington, Cheshire, which was about an hour’s drive from Old Trafford. The following morning, just before 7 am, his wife Louise found him hanging in his garage.

She contacted the ambulance service at 7:08 a.m., alerting the police as well. They acknowledged that he had died and said they were not looking into his death as suspicious.

Although the specifics were not totally verified, it was claimed that Speed had died by suicide.

A few hours later, the Football Association of Wales made Quinton Bird’s passing public. There was a Speed death inquest on November 29, 2011. The new date is January 30, 2012.
