Randy Pausch was a computer science professor in the United States and the author of the New York Times best-selling book The Last Lecture. Pausch was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina (Maryland).
Randy Pausch- Relationship, Married Life
Randy Pausch, a well-known college professor, and scientist was married to Jai Glasgow, whom he met at a conference. The woman who would ultimately become Pausch’s future wife immediately struck Pausch. Randy had even asked her out on a date.
However, Jai was first uninterested in him. The professor, on the other hand, got a ‘Yes’ from Jai and later invited her to an event he was attending the next day. Randy and Jai married in a quiet wedding under a 100-year-old oak tree in May 2000, surrounded by close friends and family members.
Jai proved herself to be a true wife by standing by Randy till his last breath on his deathbed. Randy and Jai had three children together: Dylan Pausch, Logan Pausch, and Chloe Pausch. Furthermore, Jai was a divorced woman before meeting Randy, and her marriage to his college classmate destroyed her trust in marriage and finding love again.
Jai married for the third time with Rich Essenmacher after Randy died in 2008. Jai met Rich, a retired naval officer, online. And, according to Jai, it was difficult for her to leave Randy, but she eventually accepted that she would never find love again following Pausch’s death. In 2012, Jai married Rich.
Randy Pausch- Professional Career
Randy Pausch worked briefly at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center and Adobe Systems before joining Carnegie Mellon University in 1997 as an Associate Professor of Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, and Design.
Pausch had completed his high school education at Oakland Mills High School. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Brown University. Pausch also earned a doctorate in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. He began his computer science career as an assistant professor at the University of Virginia.
Similarly, Pausch founded the Alice software project and was awarded the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award. Pausch gave his final lecture, “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” at Carnegie Mellon University on September 18, 2007, just before his death.
Randy Pausch died of pancreatic cancer
Randy Pausch and his family’s world was turned upside down when the college professor learned he had pancreatic cancer that had progressed to the point where it could not be treated. Pausch died of cancer in 2008, at the age of 47, at his home in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he had relocated to be closer to his in-laws’ family after learning of his ailment. On July 25th, the father of three died.
Pausch underwent a Whipple treatment before his death to treat his cancer, which was sadly ineffective. Randy was also told by his doctor that he only had 2-3 months to live. The courageous cancer fighter, on the other hand, lived for five months. Randy’s children, on the other hand, have been involved in raising awareness of pancreatic cancer. Not to mention, his son Dylan worked hard to raise awareness on Capitol Hill.
