What is Fire Country’s backstory?

Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater created Fire Country, which stars Bode Donovan, a juvenile prisoner with a troubled past. He proposes the California Conservation Camp Program, in which inmates help the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal Fire, in the hopes of rehabilitating themselves and shortening his prison sentence.

According to the official synopsis of the show:

“Poor decisions do not equal a bad person. That’s what Bode Donavan has learned. Despite being halfway through a five-year sentence, he’s been trying to convince himself of it as well.”

It continues, saying:

“He has the opportunity to demonstrate this by participating in an unusual prison-release program in which inmates are partnered with firemen fighting Northern California wildfires in return for shortened terms. The fire is turned up when Bode is assigned to the program in his remote birthplace, where all of his problems began.”

Executive producers include Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and Kristie Anne Reed. The first season of Fire Country premiered on October 7, 2022, and was renewed for a second season in January 2023.
