A lawsuit has been filed against TV personality Mike Holmes’ company, The Holmes Group.
Mike’s ‘Holmes approved properties’ initiative has been accused of promoting properties with problems.
Homeowners in Meaford, Ontario, claim that the company developed and promoted over a dozen residences that were riddled with “numerous deficiencies.”
Andrea Hart and Myles Johnson, both of Toronto, were looking for a retirement home in 2016 when they made their purchase. Andrea, 65, stated, “We trusted the name.” A house that passes Mike Holmes’s inspection.
Mike appeared on a billboard in Meaford, praised the developer in a YouTube video, and made site visits to help market the TerraceWood development.
CTV News Toronto has obtained a statement detailing the development’s participants, which includes The Holmes Group among roughly a dozen others.
Tarion, a consumer advocacy group, filed the $8 million lawsuit in December 2021.
It claims that Third Line Homes constructed homes with several defects, including leaks, mold, and structural issues, which caused the plaintiffs’ losses.
The Osbornofs, Mary-Jo, and Paul, are the company’s principals and officers, and they are also mentioned in the complaint.
Tarion further says that the company did not respond to warranty requests or remedy the problems. It claims to have been covering the costs of maintenance independently.
Meaford is located on Georgian Bay, some 100 km northwest of Barrie, and the residences in question are on Gordan Crescent.
There is no court evidence to support any of the accusations. So yes, there have been no arrests or charges filed.
