Redefined: J.R. Smith will be available on Prime Video on April 4, 2023, at 12:01 a.m., according to Cinema Blend. The four-part docuseries will chronicle the career of the former professional basketball player.

Despite having a successful NBA career, Smith was unlucky to find himself without a club to play for one day. In 2021, he shocked the world by enrolling at North Carolina A&T State University and joining the Aggies’ golf team. He never went to college because he went straight from high school to the NBA.
J.R. Smith made his NBA debut at the age of 19
Smith entered the NBA at the age of 19 after graduating from high school. He won two NBA championships with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers. He played his final NBA game, Game 3 of that Finals series, on October 4, 2020. When he realized he wouldn’t have a team to play for in 2021, he resolved to get a college degree and forge a new career path. He enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University, the country’s largest predominantly black university.
He then unexpectedly left professional basketball to join the Texas A&M Aggies golf team. The original teaser for the docuseries has been released by Prime Video. Smith claims he made this bold move to put his skills to the test and to prove something to no one but himself. In the video above, he can be heard saying:
“I’m not doing this to prove anything… I’m doing it to prove to myself that I’m capable of doing it.”
Philip Knowlton directs the four-part docuseries. Executive producers include LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, Amy Glickman Brown, Erikka Yancy, and Philip Knowlton. The formal summary for the show, according to Amazon Studios, is as follows:

Smith was born on September 9, 1985, in Freehold Borough, New Jersey, and grew up in Millstone Township, New Jersey, in the Clarksburg area. He entered the NBA straight out of high school after being selected 18th overall by the New Orleans Hornets in the first round of the 2004 NBA draft.
Smith has previously played for the Denver Nuggets, the New York Knicks, and the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association. He won the NBA championship twice, once with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and again in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Smith enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University in 2021 and joined the Aggies’ golf team. Later that year, Smith joined Complexity Gaming.
