On November 11, 1975, Reid Wiseman was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed high school at Timonium’s Dulaney High School.
He earned his engineering bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He then graduated from John Hopkins University with a master’s in systems engineering in 2006.
Reid received a commission from the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps after graduating. For flying training, he reported to Pensacola, Florida.
In order to move to the F-14 Tomcat, he reported to Fighter Squadron 101 Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, after receiving the promotion of naval aviator in 1999.
Career in NASA
Reid Wiseman was chosen as one of the nine members of the 20th NASA astronaut class in June 2009.
He arrived at the Johnson Space Center in August 2009, and in May 2011, he completed his astronaut training.
Wiseman spent 2014 living and working on the International Space Station (ISS). Prior to that, he oversaw the 16-day underwater research expedition NEEMO21, which advanced space exploration.
Children and Wife of Reid Wiseman
Judy Wiseman, Reid’s mother, passed away, and Bill Wiseman, Reid’s father, resides in Hunt Valley, Maryland. He had two children with Carroll Taylor, the woman he was married to.
Carroll battled illness for five years before passing away in May 2020 at the age of 46.
Mission of Artemis 2
The Artemis 2 mission will be led by Reid Wiseman. Since the Apollo program ended more than 50 years ago, this mission will be NASA’s first crewed trip around the moon.

Reid Wiseman has made a substantial contribution to space exploration as an astronaut, engineer, and naval aviator. He is about to create history once again as he takes over the Artemis 2 mission.
