Former CBS 21 news anchor Robb Hanrahan passed away yesterday at the age of 60. In a statement, CBS 21 stated,
“Robb’s contributions to CBS 21 are immeasurable, as are the extraordinary bonds he forged with everyone at the station. We’ll miss him dearly.
The reason for Robb Hanrahan’s demise
On July 3, 2022, Robb Hanrahan passed away; however, the exact cause of death is still unknown. Richard Hanrahan made his retirement announcement in February 2021 and gave the reasons that he needed to put his health first and spend more time with his family.
In 2020, Robb had a heart attack that nearly killed him. He also described his encounter to his audience, describing it as a stunning and transformative occurrence. He went on,
“Though television news has always been and always will be a part of who I am, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to stand back. I want to reassure my friends and colleagues at CBS 21 that I won’t be leaving, although I will miss them all. My wife, Stacey, is still the weathercaster, and CBS 21 will always be my station. I’m still in the market.
His wife Stacey, a licensed mariner with a fifty-ton Master/Mate (captain’s) license from the United States Coast Guard, son, and daughter also survive Hanrahan.
Overview of Robb Hanrahan
Robb Hanrahan, who was born on April 11, 1962, started his career at Miami, Florida’s WFOR-TV, which is owned and run by CBS. He co-anchored the broadcast with Maggie Rodriguez for four years.
Previously, Richard Hanrahan was a newscaster for WHP-TV, a CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. At WABC-TV, he served as an anchor from 1996 to 2003.
Richard Hanrahan started out working alongside Nancy Loo as a co-anchor for the morning and noontime Eyewitness News programs. He was promoted to co-anchor the 5 o’clock broadcast on WABC in 1997, taking Greg Hurst’s place.
He was a part of the WABC-second TV team that revamped the morning newscast, replacing Loo and David Ushery with him and Lori Stokes.
Richard Hanrahan was replaced in the early evening newscasts by Diana Williams as the station underwent numerous changes. Robb thereafter restricted his anchoring to the weekends only.
Robb began his career in news at KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri, and has since worked for WSVN-TV and WHTM-TV. He remained with CBS 21 for eleven years, covering important occasions and setting up town halls on issues like legalizing marijuana and raising the minimum wage.
He won numerous radio and journalism honors. For their reporting of a shooting at Miami International Airport in 2006, Hanrahan and the CBS news team were honored with a national Edward R. Murrow Award.
