Between June 1984 and August 1985, the crimes of The Walk-in Murderer, also known as Ricardo “Richard” Leyva Muoz Ramirez, were committed in California.
His first wave of assaults happened in the San Gabriel Valley. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1989.
Psychiatrist Michael H. Stone claims that Ramirez is a “manufactured” psychopath as opposed to a “born” psychopath.
He contends that Ramirez’s indifference to the suffering of his victims was a result of his incurable schizoid personality disorder.
Before he was six, Stone claims that Ramirez was frequently rendered unconscious and close to death. “Later developed temporal lobe epilepsy, aggressiveness, and hypersexuality” as a result.

Ramirez was sentenced to death. He wasn’t executed, though. He also had a history of using drugs and having recurrent Hepatitis C infections.
Ramirez was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to death in a gas chamber in California on November 7, 1989. He was on death row for the following 23 years in San Quentin State Prison, although he was never taken to the chamber.
On August 7, 2006, the California Supreme Court upheld Ramirez’s convictions and the death penalty, rejecting his initial state-level appeals.
On September 7, 2006, the California Supreme Court denied his motion for a rehearing. Ramirez was still engaged in additional appeals when he passed away.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, she started sending the convicted murderer dozens of letters in 1985, while he was being held and awaiting trial.
As their connection grew, she allegedly paid him four weekly visits to jail. She once stated that she believed Ramirez to be completely innocent.
She told the Examiner that she loved Ramirez “more than anything in the world” in an interview, and Lioy remarked on CNN in 1997, “I just believe in him completely,” adding, “He’s kind, he’s funny, he’s charming.”

The two got married in 1996 after Ramirez’s 1988 marriage proposal. After 13 years of marriage, Lioy ended her connection with the murderer.
She did so when DNA proof linking Ramirez to the 1984 rape and death of a nine-year-old kid was discovered in 2009.
However, it’s been said that after splitting with Lioy, he moved on to another relationship. Alongside 23-year-old author Christine Lee this time.
Lee said that she was engaged to Ramirez on The Geraldo Rivera Show. But if or when this ever happened needs to be clarified. She also refused to go into any further detail about their claimed relationship.
