A convenience store owner wrongly thought a 14-year-old child named Cyrus Carmack-Belton was stealing four bottles of water on Sunday night, May 28, 2023, and shot and killed him.
The event occurred at the Chow’s Xpress Mart Shell station in Columbia, South Carolina, and it has angered and saddened the neighborhood.
The store’s owner, Rick Chow, 58, allegedly accosted Carmack-Belton inside the establishment and accused him of stealing, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Despite Carmack-Belton’s attempts to flee, Chow and his son pursued him. The adolescent was then struck in the chest by a bullet fired by Chow from his rifle. At the scene, Carmack-Belton was declared deceased.
