How did Ridley Scott start his Professional Career?
Scott started his cinematic career by building sets for television programs. After that, he started the production company RSA, famed for its advertisements, and began directing episodes of “Adam Adamant Lives!” His experience with companies like Hovis Bread helped him establish himself as a skilled director.
With “The Duelists,” Ridley made his directorial debut in 1977, and “Alien,” released in 1979, brought him further success. He later helmed “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant,” returning to the Alien series. After leaving his previous film, “Dune,” Ridley was hired to helm “Blade Runner.”
Despite receiving initially unfavorable reviews and modest box office returns, the movie is now highly regarded by critics and is based on a book by Philip K. Dick. Scott produced successful films like “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “Thelma & Louise,” as well as a well-known Apple commercial.
His most successful movie, “Thelma & Louise,” earned almost $45 million at the box office and earned him an Academy Award nod for Best Director. Although Scott’s film “1492: Conquest of Paradise” was disappointing, he bounced back with his production firm, Scott Free Productions, and successful films like “White Squall” and “G.I. Jane.”
With the box office sensation “Gladiator,” which won Best Picture and Best Actor at the Academy Awards, he experienced further success in 2000. With the help of his “Hannibal” and “Black Hawk Down”-related movies, Ridley won another Academy Award for Best Director.
Prior to “Kingdom of Heaven,” he made the critically acclaimed “Matchstick Men” in a historical setting. Although the film’s first reviews were unfavorable, critics praised the director’s cut when it was released in 2006.
Scott was the director of a number of films starring “American Gangster,” “A Good Year,” “Body of Lies,” and “Robin Hood.” Only the latter movie was a commercial and critical success. Later in 2015, Scott achieved success once more with “The Martian,” which garnered favorable reviews and earned more than $630 million globally.
