Police said that when trying to apprehend U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark’s daughter on Saturday night for vandalizing a statue on the Boston Common, she allegedly assaulted a Boston Police officer.
During a weekend protest, Riley Dowell, 23, of Melrose, wrote “NO COP CITY” and “ACAB” on the Parkman Bandstand Monument, according to Boston Police.
A group of approximately 20 protesters “surrounded policemen while yelling profanities through megaphones on the public roadway, causing traffic to come to a halt,” according to Police, as they attempted to arrest the woman.
While obstructing Jared Dowell’s arrest, one officer received a hit to the face and was bleeding from the mouth and nose, according to a statement released by Boston Police on Sunday.
She was accused with assault with a dangerous weapon, harm to or destruction of personal property, and tagging or graffiti damage to property.
Clark spoke out against political extremism earlier this month during the debate over whether to choose Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House while blaming the Republican Party.

According to the police, Dowell will be charged in Boston Municipal Court.
In a statement shared on social media on Sunday afternoon, Clark confirmed that her daughter had been arrested in Boston.
Clark said on Twitter, “I love Riley, and this is a difficult time in the parenting cycle of joy and suffering. “The legal system will look into this, and I have faith in that procedure.”
Andrea Colletti, 27, of Brighton, was detained at the Parkman Bandstand Monument on Saturday at around 10:30 p.m. after trying to flee on foot, according to Boston Police.
After a short altercation, “she was brought under custody,” according to law enforcement. Colletti was accused of damaging property by tagging or graffiti, damaging or destroying personal property, and resisting arrest.
Additionally, Colletti is expected to appear in Boston Municipal Court. A person was detained in Boston for graffiti and resisted police about an hour after Dowell.
After a short foot chase, officers caught Andrea Colletti, 27. Colletti struggled with the police for a short while before being handcuffed.
