Women’s Rights in Afghanistan
On the other side, on December 26, 2021, the Afghan government issued a circular stating that women will not be able to travel more than 72 kilometers without the presence of male relatives. In response to this comment, Heather Barr, the Associate Director of Women’s Rights, stated that the new order will ultimately take women even further into the prison system. He also said that it would limit their options. Women will be unable to freely move around cities, travel, or conduct business as a result of this. This will limit their activities and make it difficult for them to depart if they are confronted with domestic violence.
