A notification of Gary’s demise was made by the band Lynyrd Skynyrd on their official Facebook page on Sunday night. What they have to say is as follows:
We must inform you that Gary Rossington, our brother, friend, family member, composer, and musician, passed away today. Please accept our sincere condolences and grief.
“Gary is playing it nice as he usually does in heaven with his Skynyrd brothers and family. Please respect the privacy of the Rossington family at this trying time and keep Dale, Mary, Annie, and the whole family in your prayers.
It is unclear what caused the death and is not stated. He definitely passed away as a result of his health problems.
Gary Rossington’s Medical Conditions
Rossington has had a number of medical conditions, including many heart attacks.
His successful quintuple bypass surgery in 2003 helped him recuperate from his open heart surgery.
Nevertheless, his cardiac problems persisted, and in October 2015, he had a heart attack that forced the postponement of two Lynyrd Skynyrd performances.
Rossington stayed committed to playing with the band in spite of these obstacles.
