We must inform you that Gary Rossington, our brother, friend, family member, composer, and musician, passed away today. Please accept our sincere condolences and grief.

“Gary is playing it nice as he usually does in heaven with his Skynyrd brothers and family. Please respect the privacy of the Rossington family at this trying time and keep Dale, Mary, Annie, and the whole family in your prayers.

It is unclear what caused the death and is not stated. He definitely passed away as a result of his health problems.

Gary Rossington’s Medical Conditions

Rossington has had a number of medical conditions, including many heart attacks.

His successful quintuple bypass surgery in 2003 helped him recuperate from his open heart surgery.

Nevertheless, his cardiac problems persisted, and in October 2015, he had a heart attack that forced the postponement of two Lynyrd Skynyrd performances.

Rossington stayed committed to playing with the band in spite of these obstacles.

He had emergency cardiac surgery on the Big Wheels Keep on Turnin’ Tour, and he recovered in 2021.

He has also had a history of having heart attacks on stage during his career.

Rossington perished in an aviation accident in 1977. On the chartered jet headed for Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after a gig was one of the band members.

South Carolina’s Greenville hosted the performance. The jet ran out of fuel and crashed into the forest.

Three days had passed since the release of “Street Survivors,” their fifth studio album when the disaster occurred.

Several band members, including Steve Gaines and Ronnie Van Zant, as well as the tour manager and Steve Gaines’ sister Cassie Gaines, were killed in the aircraft accident.

On December 4, 1951, Gary Rossington was born in Jacksonville, Florida. At seventy-one, he passed away.

Berniece, his mother, raised him alone after his father died soon after his birth.

Rossington is married to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s backing vocalist Dale Krantz-Rossington.

Mary Elizabeth Rossington is one of the couple’s two daughters; the two were married in 1982. On the other hand, not much is known about his second daughter.
