Since being diagnosed in 2019, Burrow, who was one of the individuals that inspired the plot, has endeavored to increase awareness of the ailment.

He thought that demonstrating the effects of ALS would make a “huge difference.”

Rob Burrow stated,

“I’m blown away by the reception I’ve received, but Coronation Square will raise awareness to a whole new level.”

“I believe this will encourage individuals who are looking for someone to recognize the amount of work and time that goes into caring for a patient with this dreadful disease.”

MND damages the brain and nerves and results in progressive weakening.

There is no cure for ALS, although there are therapies that can lessen the disease’s impact on a patient’s everyday life.

Lindsey, his wife, remarked,

“I believe bringing MND into people’s living rooms will have a tremendous impact since it will eliminate the need to repeatedly explain what it is.

“I grew up watching Coronation Street with my parents, so to really be on the cobblestones is extremely odd for me.”

The plot, which was also inspired by rugby union star Doddie Weir, will chronicle the effects of motor neuron disease (MND) on Peter Ash’s character, builder Paul Foreman.

He told BBC Breakfast,

“We’ve been working on it for quite some time.”

There has been a great deal of effort and investigation to ensure accuracy.

“The journey will be extremely lengthy.”

Daniel Brocklebank portrays Paul’s companion Billy Mayhew; he has been an MND Association (MNDA) ambassador for the past 20 years after his grandfather died from the condition.

“I will have a wealth of expertise to draw from, and I think that will contribute to the story’s realism,” he said.

“It’s doubly special, not only to be able to raise awareness but also to honor the people I’ve known over the past two decades and the organization that works diligently to find a cure.

It’s a subject near and dear to my heart, and I’m certain that my grandfather would be pleased that I’m discussing it.

MNDA chief executive Tanya Curry stated that the MND community was “very pleased” with the plot because “awareness is vital and education is everything.”
