Later that week, Durst submitted a missing person’s report. The building superintendent found McCormack’s possessions in the trash compactor three weeks later.
Before she vanished, McCormack had asked Durst for a $250,000 divorce settlement; instead, Durst canceled her credit card, removed her from their joint bank account, and refused to cover her medical school tuition.
McCormack had also visited the hospital for alleged facial bruises inflicted by her hubby.
Eight years after she disappeared, Durst filed for divorce, citing spousal abandonment. Subsequently, the mother of McCormack attempted to sue Durst for killing her daughter and keeping them from being able to bury her.
The disappearance was reclassified as a homicide in May 2021 following further lawsuits and a reopened criminal investigation. In October, Durst was formally charged with her murder.
How did Robert Durst start his Professional Career?
Dissatisfied with his father’s position at the Durst Organization, Durst launched a small food business in Vermont called All Good Things.
A few years later, he closed the shop after his father convinced him to work for his company. But because of Durst’s reckless actions, Durst’s father chose to choose his other son, Douglas, to take over the business.
Eventually, Durst filed a lawsuit, claiming he was entitled to his share of the family’s wealth.
Durst got to know dental hygienist Kathleen McCormack in 1971. By the next year, the two were cohabiting, initially in Durst’s Vermont home and later in Manhattan.
1973 April saw their marriage. In early 1982, more than ten years later, McCormack abruptly disappeared. Durst claimed that following their argument, he sent McCormack on a commuter train, went home, and turned in.
McCormack’s buddy Gilberte Najamy was worried when she failed to show up at the tavern where he was expecting her.
