Robert J. Frankel was an American racehorse trainer who was well-known for his work with racehorses such as Squirtle Squirt. ESPN labeled him one of the most accomplished and recognized thoroughbred racing trainers in history. Frankel was a five-time Eclipse Award winner for Outstanding Trainer.

Julian Frankel was born on July 9, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Furthermore, he was American by nationality and Welsh by heritage. He was the son of Merill (mother) and Gertrude Frankel (father), both of whom worked in the culinary industry.
His parents eventually took him to Belmont Park, where he spent his boyhood. Frankel attended C.W. Post College on Long Island after graduating from high school but dropped out after getting into a fight.

J. Frankel had two marriages. First, he married Bernadette Birk in 1970 in Brooklyn, New York. His wife was a Roman Catholic who later converted to Judaism. They had one daughter, Bethenny Frankel (born November 4, 1970), who is now a reality TV star.
Unfortunately, after four years of marriage, Frankel and his wife Bernadette divorced in 1974, citing irreconcilable differences. Robert’s wife wedded another horse trainer, John Parisella, after the divorce. After competing in numerous horse races, Parisella and his wife became friends.
Frankel met his second wife, Bonita Boniface, in a restaurant in California in 2001. Later, they were acquainted through a mutual friend. They began dating after spending quality time together. They quickly became engaged and married in 2003. They divorced in 2006, however, due to various misunderstandings.
Frankel died three years later, on November 16, 2009, at the age of 68, at his home in California. His death was caused by leukemia. He reconnected with both his daughter and his former good friend (Stepfather of Bethenny) before his death after they had separated. He was later laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, California.

In the early 1960s, Robert J. Frankel began his career as an assistant to the well-known trainer Buddy Jacobson. Later, in 1973, he won his first horse race, the San Gorgonio Handicap. Similarly, Robert competed in the horse competition Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap, which he won in 1979.
Frankel also competed in a number of horse races, including the Pacific Classic Stakes, Queen’s Plate, American Classics/Breeders’ Cup, and others. The Frankel won the San Gorgonio Handicap eight times throughout his racing career, and it was dubbed a Memorial Handicap in his honor in 2010. In addition, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame after winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on November 1, 2014.
