Van Persie made his senior debut for Feyenoord during the 2001-02 season, culminating in the 2002 UEFA Cup Final; he was also named Dutch Football Talent of the Year. After five years with Feyenoord, he fell out with the manager Bert van Marwijk, and joined the English club Arsenal in 2004 for £2,75 million as a long-term replacement for fellow countryman Dennis Bergkamp. Van Persie won the 2004 FA Community Shield and the 2004–05 FA Cup at Arsenal. He scored a club record of 35 goals in 2011 and was the club captain for the 2011–12 season before joining Manchester United in July 2012.
