A resident of Scarcroft named Rocco Wright was found face down in a pool at the David Lloyd recreation facility in Moortown on April 21, 2018, at around 9.30 am.
According to Wakefield Coroner’s Court jury inquest pathologist Dr. Kirsten Hope, the boy perished of an irreversible brain injury caused by drowning, and there is evidence that he may have been submerged for up to five minutes.
Rocco’s father, Steven Wright, stated on February 10 during the inquest that the family was “concerned about the levels of health and safety at the David Lloyd pool on the day Rocco died.”

Rocco Wright’s father is Steven Wright, and his mother’s identity is currently unknown.
During an inquest, the father of a three-year-old who perished in a recreation center pool stated that his son’s death “could and should have been prevented.”
Mr. Wright asserted that on April 21, 2018, he was at the pool with Rocco and his daughter, intending to teach his son to swim while his daughter participated in her regular lesson.
When he noticed that Rocco was no longer by his side, he claimed that he had just learned that the lesson had been canceled.
Mr. Wright explained that he began searching for his son but did not believe he was in the pool because Rocco had a “natural fear of water” and would not enter by himself. He continued to clutch Rocco’s life vest.
When he dragged Rocco out of the large pool at the David Lloyd Leisure Center in Leeds, Steven Wright revealed his distress.
He stated that he did not initially examine the pool because his son had a “natural fear of water” and could have been hiding there.
During the investigation, he criticized the visibility of the lifeguards at the poolside.
Mr. Wright retrieved Rocco from the pool in Tongue Lane, Moortown, on April 21, 2018, but his son was pronounced deceased at the hospital the next day.
Death Cause Of Rocco Wright
After a three-year-old perished at one of David Lloyd Leisure’s locations, the company was fined £2.5 million.
Rocco Wright was discovered in the pool at the Moortown, Leeds, recreation center in April 2018, but he was already deceased.
The coroner determined that he died due to an accident, but Leeds City Council filed charges against the company.
Due to a health and safety violation, the company was fined £2,550,000 and ordered to pay an additional £258,355.80 in costs at Leeds Crown Court.
According to testimony given during the inquest into Rocco’s murder in 2020, his father, Steven Wright, had to extricate him from the water.
Rocco had escaped from Mr. Wright’s side, and Mr. Wright described his increasing horror as he searched for him before discovering him at the bottom of the main pool.
There were no witnesses or CCTV footage that could explain how Rocco ended up in the water, the inquest heard. He claimed that his son had never entered the pool on his own.
The inquest revealed that one lifeguard, aged 17, was on duty at the time of the incident.
The jury determined that Rocco had likely spent more than two minutes submerged in the 1,20-centimeter-deep water.
The amusement business admitted to violating Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974 by neglecting to take all precautions reasonably necessary to ensure the safety of the guests.
It was acknowledged that neither formal documented visibility assessments nor a generic risk assessment were tailored specifically to the indoor pool’s characteristics.
