According to Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead of Pennsylvania, her 11-year-old son Matthew Whitehead was killed by being strangled with a belt.
First-degree murder is the charge brought against the 50-year-old.
The mother who is accused of killing her own son claimed that she did it because she didn’t want her son to grow up seeing the family struggle with money.
The event was reported to the police by Matthew Whitehead’s father on Tuesday morning when he discovered his son had died.

Ruth DiRienzo Whitehead, Matthew Whitehead’s mother, is suspected of strangling her son to death with a belt. The young youngster was discovered deceased on Tuesday (April 11, 2023).
Investigators were told by his mother that she had strangled her 11-year-old son because she didn’t want him to grow up in poverty.
Mrs. Whitehead stated that her kid had been crying all day long over the family’s financial problems. In the master bedroom, where he had spent the previous night with his mother, Matthew’s father discovered him dead.
The astonished father contacted the police right away. The father allegedly found the bedroom locked and both his wife and their SUV missing.
Where the husband of Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead slept before discovering the horrible discovery is unknown.
Prosecutors said that DiRienzo-Whitehead allegedly fled the residence after killing her child and drove 120 miles to Cape May, New Jersey, where she allegedly slammed her SUV into the sea.
Later, the same car had the belt that was used to murder Matthew Whitehead. The suspected offender was discovered by one of the policemen strolling down the street. She apparently looked disorganized and was dressed in torn pajamas.
A statement made by Ruth DiRienzo Whitehead that was recorded in an affidavit was, “I know what I did.”
It’s unknown if DiRienzo-Whitehead has a qualified attorney on her side. The court documents didn’t include one.

After the autopsy indicated that the small child, Matthew Whitehead, had been strangled to death, she was charged.

Currently, the suspected killer is being held in Cape May. She would be sent back to Montgomery County, according to the prosecution, for arraignment.
The little victim’s father’s identity has not yet been made public.
