Samantha Morton portrays Catherine de Medici in the forthcoming American period drama The Serpent Queen, which is based on Catherine’s biography.
The creation series by Justin Haythe is an adaptation of Leonie Friedman’s 2004 nonfiction book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France.
The Serpent Queen focuses on the epic life and rule of 14-year-old Italian refugee Catherine, who was compelled to marry French Prince Henri. She went on to become one of the most powerful and longest-ruling monarchs in French history.
The actress joined the Central Junior Television Workshop in her hometown of Nottingham in 1991 and subsequently pursued a career in British television.
