Sammie Okposo, a Nigerian gospel singer, died on Friday, November 25, at the age of 51. His death was verified by his project manager, Hillary Vincent, to The Punch.

His death was also confirmed in an official statement published by his family and signed by Hecter Okposo:

“I announce the loss of our wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, Minister of God, Sammie Okposo, with a sorrowful heart but entire obedience to God.”

The statement also noted that the singer’s burial plans would be “communicated shortly” and asked that Okposo’s family be allowed to mourn in peace:

“We are comforted because we know he is singing with angels with Jesus.” We respectfully urge that the family be allowed to mourn in privacy at this time.”

Although no precise cause of death has been announced, according to PM News, the performer collapsed and died after having a heart attack. Okposo came dangerously near to death in May 2020 when the propeller shaft of his automobile disconnected while the vehicle was in motion. He hailed Jesus for being his “savior, deliverer, guardian, and shield” throughout the moment, and declared the “devil and his henchmen” had failed to harm him.

Sammie Okposo was a well-known personality in the Nigerian gospel music business. The multi-award-winning vocalist, music producer, psalmist, and performer was also the CEO of Zamar Entertainment. Sammie Okposo was a well-known Nigerian gospel music artist. He was born on May 30, 1971, in Delta State, Nigeria, and reared there. He started his career in the Nigerian film sector as a soundtrack producer in 1992 before debuting his own album, Unconditional Love, in 2002. Okposo rose to notoriety with his breakthrough tune Welu Welu, which was followed by his subsequent album Addicted in 2004.

Okposo went on to work with a number of well-known gospel performers, including Marvellous Odiete, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Donnie Mcclurkin, Cece Winans, and Israel Houghton.

The musician has also played around Africa, North America, and Europe, and has garnered international praise for staging a series of performances known as the Sammie Okposo Praise Party, or SOPP. He has also garnered several distinctions and prizes for his efforts to the gospel music business.

Following an infidelity episode, Okposo gave a public apology to his wife on social media in January 2022. The singer also left the ministry in order to seek repair and forgiveness. Okposo’s most recent album, The Statement, was released in 2018, and it was produced by Grammy Award-winning performer Kevin Bond.
