Former actor Samuel E. Wright has carved out a very successful career for himself as a musician and voice actor. His big break came from performing the lead vocals for the Academy Award–winning song “Under the Sea” in the popular Little Mermaid Disney animated picture.

On November 20, 1946, Samuel E. Wright was born in Camden, South Carolina. Along with his family, he attended school and grew up in his birthplace Camden.
Wright is a citizen of Canada and is of mixed heritage.

Samuel E. Wright began his acting career in 1988 with a modest role in the movie Bird. After lending his voice to Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, he was widely recognized.
He also played in the Disney film The Little Mermaid’s Under the Sea song. The song, which was composed by 70-year-old Academy Award winner Alan Menken, became a megahit and was recognized with both a 1991 Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and an Academy Award in 1989 for Best Original Song.
The song was included in several other well-known works, including the action role-playing games Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II by Square Enix.
Wright also sang the voice of Kiss the Girl, another song from Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated feature picture The Little Mermaid.

2020 will see the release of the Little Mermaid, an aThenimated Disney film from 1989, in a new version. The film, directed by Rob Marshall, is based on a fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837.
