On November 20, 1946, Samuel E. Wright was born in Camden, South Carolina. Along with his family, he attended school and grew up in his birthplace Camden.

Wright is a citizen of Canada and is of mixed heritage.

Samuel E. Wright began his acting career in 1988 with a modest role in the movie Bird. After lending his voice to Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, he was widely recognized.

He also played in the Disney film The Little Mermaid’s Under the Sea song. The song, which was composed by 70-year-old Academy Award winner Alan Menken, became a megahit and was recognized with both a 1991 Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and an Academy Award in 1989 for Best Original Song.
