After passing an audition in 1974, he served as a continuous member, joining the band at a time when the future of the band was in doubt after the departure of the original guitarist Eric Bell and his brief replacement Gary Moore. Gorham remained with Thin Lizzy until the band broke up in 1984. He and guitarist Brian Robertson, both hired at the same time, marked the beginning of the most critically successful period of the band, and together they developed Thin Lizzy’s twin lead guitar style, while also contributing dual backing vocals. Gorham is the longest member of the band after the founder’s Brian Downey (drummer) and the frontman and bass guitarist Phil Lynott.
