Who is Scott Gottlieb? 

Scott Gottlieb, M.D., is an American physician who served as the Food and Drug Administration’s 23rd Commissioner (FDA). From May 2017 through April 2019, he worked for the FDA. Scott is a partner with New Enterprise Associates, a venture capital firm. He also serves on the board of directors of Pfizer, Inc., a multinational pharmaceutical firm. Scott has also been involved in several other projects.

Gottlieb was born in New Jersey, United States, on June 11, 1972, to Dr. Stanley (father) and Marsha Gottlieb (mother). Scott, who is 48 years old, is of Jewish descent. Wesleyan University awarded him a bachelor’s degree in economics. Gottlieb also finished his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital.

In 2002, Gottlieb joined the FDA as a senior advisor. Scott returned to FDA in 2005 after working for a year. He served as the agency’s Deputy Commissioner for Medical and Scientific Affairs for two years. Scott was nominated for FDA Commissioner in March 2017 and began working in the office on May 11, 2017. Scott campaigned against the use of nicotine during his term as commissioner. He also pushed back the dates for applying for cigars and electronic cigarettes. Gottlieb resigned as FDA Commissioner in March 2019 after two years on the job. He chose to resign from his employment to spend more time with his family.
