According to Trump supporter Scott Perry, the FBI searched the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort on Monday and took his phone. The congressman told Fox News that while on vacation with his family, FBI agents asked him to turn over his phone.

“This morning, while traveling with my family, I received a call from three FBI agents, who took my cell phone away. They did not attempt to get in touch with my lawyer, who could have set up for them to access my phone if that’s what they wanted.

Perry expressed his outrage at the conduct and his criticism of the Department of Justice. In addition, he claimed that the information on his phone related to politics, legislation, and his personal life was “none of the government’s business”:

“I am horrified, but not shocked, that the FBI would seize the phone of a sitting member of Congress on Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice’s instruction. My phone records my private discussions with my wife, family, and friends as well as information about my political and legislative activity. The government has no interest in this.

Representative Liz Cheney claimed that Perry called the White House right away following the Capitol Riot on January 6 to get a pardon before the FBI acted. The Republican, though, vehemently refuted the assertion.

The House Select Committee charged Scott Perry with being “personally involved with efforts to corrupt the Department of Justice and install Jeffrey Clark as acting Attorney General” in its May report on the attack on the Capitol on January 6.

The committee also claimed that Perry had previously spoken with the White House about issues with the House Select Committee’s continuing inquiry into the Capitol Riot.

“Allegations that Dominion voting equipment was compromised” were also included in the communication. The committee also accused Perry of texting Mark Meadows, a former White House director of staff, to see whether Jeffrey Clark could be named attorney general before January 6.
