On July 18, 2023, a 14-year-old boy named Sean Richards was tragically killed in the Chicago neighborhood of Hinsdale after being hit by a car while he and several companions were leaving a restaurant.
He had gone to the neighborhood Fontano’s Subs sandwich store that evening to pick up lunch, according to police records.
The young boy and his companions were leaving at 5:45 when an older female car struck them unintentionally as they were crossing the parking lot.
Patrick was struck by the moving automobile and had severe blunt force trauma injuries.
He was critically injured when first reblunt-forceok him to Hinsdale Hospital, where he spent the following week fighting for his life.
He received extensive medical attention, but the horrific injuries were too severe, and on July 20, he tragically passed away.
A woman in her late 70s who was driving said after the crash that she hadn’t seen the small child.
All evidence pointed to this being a terrible accident that resulted in the early loss of a valued community member, even if the precise circumstances are still being investigated.
Richards, who was just 14 years old, affected many with his wonderful nature, and his loss is incalculable.
Unnecessarily short, a bright young life was lost in the terrible vehicle accident outside Fontano’s.

Brian F. and Kristine L. Richards, his parents, as well as his brothers Conor, Grace, and Finn Richards, as well as his grandparents Lawrence and Kathleen Richards and Patricia Kramer, all adored him.
The eighth-grader at Hinsdale Middle School made everyone around him smile with his sense of humor, wit, and compassion.
Patrick was adored for being a devoted son, an amazing brother, and a kind friend to everyone.
He had a special talent for fostering goodwill and camaraderie since he was soft and kind-hearted.
The teen’s personality exuded joy and goodness, and it had a favorable effect on everyone he met.
He readily gave affection to everyone he knew because of his joyous and inquisitive character, and his sincerity, earnestness, and humility were always apparent.
Patrick’s future was brutally cut short just when it was beginning to seem wonderfully bright.
He will always be cherished for his joyous disposition and the way he uplifted everyone around him.
The 14-year-old’s innumerable friends and family members will pay tribute to him in remembrance.
The viewing will take place at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant Street, Hinsdale, IL 60521, on Monday, July 24, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, July 25, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Church, located at 306 West Fourth Street in Hinsdale, Illinois 60521.
Richards’ loss is unfathomable, but his loved ones take solace in knowing that in his brief time on earth, his contagious energy affected so many others.
