Seven Of The Most Memorable Moments From The 95th Academy Awards

Academy Awards

The 2023 Academy Awards were filled with dramatic acceptance speeches, unexpected twists, and outlandish films. Here are some of the most memorable moments from Hollywood’s biggest night of the year.

A full-circle moment

Sunday’s ceremony allowed Ke Huy Quan to reconnect with his old friend Harrison Ford.

Quan, who co-starred with Ford as a child in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, won best supporting actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once after a two-decade hiatus from acting.

Once Everything Everywhere won the prize for best picture, he hurried up to the platform and hugged his former co-star, who presented the award.

Lady Gaga goes make-up free

Lady Gaga made sure her vocals were center stage as she performed without make-up and wore jeans and a plain T-shirt.

The outfit for her performance of Hold My Hand, nominated for best original song, was a dramatic contrast to the black Versace dress with a revealing corset bodice she wore on the not-so-red carpet.

While on the carpet, she drew acclaim from fans on social media for running to the rescue of a photographer who appeared to have stumbled when strolling past her.

Hugh Grant talks about the benefits of moisturizing

The audience at the Dolby Theatre enjoyed the humor of British actor Hugh Grant.

Grant quipped as he presented the prize for best production design alongside his Four Weddings and a Funeral co-star Andie MacDowell: “There are two purposes for this.

“The first is to stress the crucial relevance of a decent moisturizer. Andie has used one every day of her life, although I have never done so.”

Grant then motioned to MacDowell, saying: “Still magnificent.” He then motioned to himself: “Basically a scrotum.”

Earlier in the evening, Grant was less enthusiastic as he discussed his cameo performance in the film Glass Onion: Knives Out Mystery with model Ashley Graham.

Asked about his experience filming the sequel, he replied:

“Well I’m barely in it. I am present for three seconds.”

Probed further on whether he enjoyed filming it, he replied: “Nearly.”

John Travolta’s heartfelt tribute to Grease co-star

John Travolta paid an emotional homage to his Grease co-star Olivia Newton-John while presenting the In Memoriam tribute for Hollywood personalities who passed away in the past year.

“We are hopelessly dedicated to you,” Travolta sobbed, citing Newton John’s legendary song.

Jimmy Kimmel talks about The Slap

The host of a late-night talk show returned to host the Academy Awards for the third time. He addressed the Oscars scandal from the previous year when Will Smith smacked Chris Rock on stage.

“We want you to have fun and feel comfortable, but safety for me is of the first importance. So, we have rigorous procedures in place,” Kimmel added.

“If anyone in this theatre commits an act of violence at any point throughout the production, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and permitted to give a 19-minute monologue.

He added,

“But honestly, the Academy has a crisis team in place.” “If something unforeseen or violent happens during the show, sit there and do absolutely nothing. Perhaps offer the attacker a hug.”

Introduces a donkey to the stage

Later, as a tribute to the Irish film Banshees of Inisherin, Kimmel brought a donkey onto the stage.

“She is certified as an emotional support animal. At least, this is what we told the airline in order to get her on the flight from Ireland. If you are depressed or need a hug, let’s get you back on that Spirit Airlines trip immediately.”

Cocaine Bear makes his presence known

Elizabeth Banks, accompanied by a hyperactive grizzly bear, presented the prize for best visual effects.

“I recently directed the film Cocaine Bear and without visual effects, this is what the bear would look like,” Banks said.

An Irish Farewell celebrity is honored with a birthday singalong.

The directors of the best short film, An Irish Farewell, sang Happy Birthday to one of the film’s stars, James Martin, during their acceptance speech.

After expressing gratitude, filmmaker Ross White stated,

“This award is actually the second most significant thing about today, as it is this man’s birthday.”

“We’d like to use the remainder of our time up here to sing for James,” he continued, leading the audience in the chorus as Martin accepted the Oscar.
