On a 2018 edition of his podcast “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast,” Gillis made homophobic and racist comments.
Due to the derogatory language he used, a representative for SNL said that Gillis will not be appearing on the program. The representative continued by saying that although the program aims to include a range of views and viewpoints, Gillis’ profanity was inappropriate.
In his ten-year comedy career, Gillis admitted to making crude jokes, and he offered his sincere apologies to anybody who was really offended. SNL producer Lorne Michaels and his staff opted not to have Gillis on the program despite his justification.
They issued a statement expressing regret for employing him without conducting a proper background check. Shane was thus let go from the program before he ever made an appearance.
Since then, Gillis has done stand-up comedy and made appearances on numerous comedic programs, including the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience”. He has drawn criticism for his provocative writing and remarks, but he also has a devoted fan base who like his sense of humor.
