Robert Redford, the son of an accountant, was born in 1936 in Santa Monica, California, where he grew up. His parents later divorced, and his father remarried, thus he grew up with a stepmother. He stayed with his father when they relocated to Van Nuys, where he struggled in academics, preferring anything to do with sports or the arts.
