Sherre Gilbert: Mari Gilbert’s Daughter, What Happened To Her

Sherre Gilbert is the daughter of Mari Gilbert and the late Shannan Gilbert’s sister. She is one of the prominent advocates for justice for her sister, who died unexpectedly in 2010.

She is Mari’s second child, after her sister Shannan and preceding her younger sister Sarra and half-sister Stevie. Shannan, her late elder sister, and Sarra spent the majority of their childhoods in foster care.

While little is known about their father, he was once described as schizophrenic and a heroin addict.

Sherre had a difficult childhood. She was reared by a single mother who struggled with poverty. Furthermore, she and her sister, Sarra, were sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend. Shannan, a sex worker, had gone to see a customer before going missing. Prior to her disappearance, 911 received many calls, including one from Sherre’s sister, who was apparently frightened. According to PIX11, during the call, the deceased New Jersey resident allegedly exclaimed, “They’re trying to kill me!”

However, it remains unclear to whom she was referring. Shannan’s assassination became known as the Long Island Serial Killer.

Shannan Gilbert, who murdered her sister?

According to NBC New York, police initially assumed Shannan died as a result of unintentional drowning. A medical examiner later found that the cause of death was difficult to determine.

After some time had passed, the Gilbert family, led by Mari, requested that a forensic pathologist conduct an independent autopsy on Shannan’s remains. According to the findings, her death was caused by homicidal strangulation. As a result, a little bone in her throat was missing, indicating that it was fractured when the culprit murdered her.

Surprisingly, a few days after discovering Shannan’s body, authorities uncovered the remains of ten additional people along Gilgo Beach. Surprisingly, four of the victims who died by strangulation were all sex workers.

Despite the fact that Shannan’s body was discovered as part of the investigation into Long Island’s suspected serial murderer, law enforcement refused to treat her death as a homicide. Shannan’s family is still searching for answers to this day.

Furthermore, John Bittrolff, a Suffolk County resident who was reportedly convicted of murdering two prostitutes, was one of the top suspects in the Long Island murder case.

Sherre and her mother, Mari, were certain Shannan was a victim of the Long Island serial killer. She claimed her deceased had further dreams. According to Sherre, she aspired to be a singer, actor, and writer while attending college.

Sarra, Sherre’s younger sister, killed her mother with a fifteen-inch knife on July 23, 2016, according to the DailyFreeman. She stabbed her mother 227 times and used a fire extinguisher on her.

Mari’s case was reported to PIX11 by the Gilbert family’s attorney, John Ray. Sarra had asked her mother to her flat because she was hearing voices, according to the lawyer.

Sherre was the name she had given to her elder sister at first.

The mother of four daughters then went to check on her but ended up killing herself.

Mari’s death was discovered thanks to Sherre’s phone call.

It was Sherre’s call to the cops, asking for a welfare check on their mother, that led to the discovery of the crime in which Sarra had killed Mari.

Sarra Gilbert, Sherre Gilbert’s sister, is missing.

Sarra Gilbert, Mari’s third child, is currently spending 25 years to life in state prison. According to various sources, Ulster County Judge Donald Williams stated that she will never be free again.

The judge, on the other hand, stated that he will see to it that Sherre’s sister receives the necessary mental health therapy.

Mari’s assassin stood silently alongside her attorney Ray, but afterwards sobbed momentarily and begged for compassion. Hayden, her kid, was given custody by his father’s relatives.

Sherre stated that after her sister, Sarra’s, sentencing, she and her family tried to help her, but she would only get better for a brief time before getting worse again.

Mari’s second daughter added that her sister belonged in a facility where she could be treated, not in a prison.

In the Netflix film, Thomasin Mackenzie portrayed Sherre Gilbert.

In 2020, Netflix will release the story of the Gilbert family. Thomasin Mackenzie, a New Zealand actress, played Sherre in the film.
