After months of legal fighting, Elon Musk just completed his USD 44 billion buyouts of the social media network Twitter. The takeover of SpaceX by its CEO resulted in the departure of the company’s top executives, including its CEO, Chairman, and Chief Financial Officer.
Twitter users were enraged when Musk took over the popular social platform. Several celebrities stated their reservations about remaining on Twitter once Musk intervened, and some of them announced their departure as word of the Tesla founder’s takeover broke.
Bridgerton and Grey’s Anatomy producer Shonda Rhimes were among the celebrities who came forward to express their dissatisfaction with the platform. Other celebrities expressed their dissatisfaction with the site, warning that it will become a breeding ground for hate speech.

Musk previously claimed that if his acquisition goes through, he will lift Twitter’s ban on former President Donald Trump. Following the attack on the US Capitol by his supporters, Twitter permanently suspended Trump in January 2021.
“I would reverse the permanent ban,” Musk said. “I don’t own Twitter yet, so this isn’t like a thing that will happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?”
Meanwhile, Kanye West, who had his account restricted recently due to anti-semitic remarks, returned to the platform following Musk’s takeover, though Elon clarified that he had nothing to do with it.
Shonda Rhimes and Ken Olin have left Twitter
Grey’s Anatomy creator and producer mogul Shonda Rhimes, who has over 1.9 million followers on Twitter, announced her departure from the platform on Saturday.
Rhimes remarked in a tweet on October 29th, “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.” The famous producer, however, is not the only one who made the decision.
Also on Twitter, This Is Us producer Ken Olin said, “The day @elonmusk takes ownership of Twitter, I’m out. No judgment. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s defend our democracy. Also, Let’s look to find peace in the world.”
Josh Gad responds to Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover
Frozen star Josh Gad also spoke about Elon Musk being Twitter’s new owner and how that will affect the network. While not announcing his intention to leave the site, Gad noted how hate speech could become a greater problem if everyone departs.
“Large exodus happening on this platform. Not sure if I stay or not. Leaning toward staying, but if today is a sign of things to come, not sure what the point is. Freedom of speech is great.
Hate speech intended to incite harm, (with no consequences) ain’t what I signed up for,” he wrote. Also, Rob Reiner seemed to suggest another point of view when he said, “For those fighting to preserve our Constitutional Democracy.
Musk’s public letter
Meanwhile, Elon has clarified his position on taking over the microblogging site, as well as the modifications he intends to implement.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Musk also wrote late Friday that he’s forming a “content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints” and that “no major content decisions or account reinstatements will take place until that council convenes.”
Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter has also recently been a topic of conversation among White House officials and Democratic strategists, given the timing as it approaches the 2024 presidential race.
