Kansas City resident Andrew Lester is in jail for shooting 16-year-old Black kid Ralph Yarl. Yarl said the police he was shot after unintentionally ringing the doorbell at the incorrect residence to pick up his brothers. The visit got aggressive, hospitalizing the adolescent.

Was Andrew Lester Mentally Ill?
Andrew Lester, a Kansas elderly guy, was imprisoned for killing a Black youth. Lester has no known mental illness. Monday afternoon revealed Lester as the shooter. He was arrested and held for 24 hours on Thursday.
Missouri law limits criminal detention to 24 hours. Ralph’s lawyers and prison authorities said Lester was freed after two hours.
On Sunday, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said Ralph could not provide an official statement due to his injuries. Ralph’s attorneys countered that the adolescent had been interviewed from his hospital bed on Friday. Mr. Crump called it an attempted murder on CNN.
What Happened to Ralph Yarl?
Ralph Yarl accidentally rang Lester’s doorbell in Kansas City’s Northland area while looking for his brothers. A 16-year-old Yarl accidentally went to Andrew Lester’s residence in a Kansas City suburb and was severely harmed. According to authorities, Yarl proceeded to Northeast 115th Street instead of Northeast 115th Terrace to pick up his brothers from Missouri.
According to court filings, a witness told police a car entered Mr. Lester’s driveway at 9:30 pm. Mr. Lester told detectives he had just lain down when the doorbell rang. He grabbed a.32 handgun and unlocked his inside door, saying he noticed a Black man yanking on the external door and thought he was attempting to break in.
He was “scared to death” by the boy’s stature and couldn’t protect himself owing to his age. Documents show Mr. Lester shot twice without speaking to the victim. Ralph denied pulling the door and stated he was outside in an informal police interview at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
The adolescent told authorities that a guy opened the door and shot him, knocking him to the ground and shooting him again. Ralph stated the guy responded, “Don’t come around here.” Ralph stumbled to nearby houses for aid after the incident and was brought to the hospital. Yarl went home to recuperate on Monday.
