In an interview with The New Yorker, Jesse Armstrong stated, “I never imagined this could last forever.” The upcoming fourth season of the Emmy-winning drama Succession will be it’s last, according to the show’s creator.
The last season of the show, which follows media mogul Logan Roy and his family, will premiere next month.
Armstrong stated that he and the other writers had been preparing the show’s conclusion since 2021.
“I am profoundly conflicted. I prefer this time while we’re editing when the entire season is complete but has not yet been released. Armstrong, who also penned Fresh Meat and Peep Show, remarked, “I enjoy the interregnum.”
“I also enjoyed the time when I and my closest partners knew that this was likely the end, or that this was the end, but hadn’t yet had to confront it in the real world.”
The HBO series starring Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Sarah Snook has been awarded thirteen Emmys, two Golden Globes, and a Bafta.
Armstrong stated that HBO, which confirmed the show’s cancellation by retweeting a New Yorker article, gave him complete control over when the show would finish.
“HBO has been wonderful and certainly would have done additional seasons, but they have been gracious in saying, ‘It’s up to you,'” he remarked.
Jesse Armstrong, who has also written for The Thick of It and Veep, has not ruled out the possibility of other Roy dynasty-themed series.
“I believe that the succession narrative we were conveying is complete,” he remarked.
“This is the muscular season that will deplete all of our reservoirs of attention, and I believe that all of these characters are experiencing enormous suffering.
“But, I also have a strong sense that there could be something else in an allied universe, allied characters, or some of the same people.”
On March 27, the premiere episode of the final season will air.
