Skyler Ackerman has continued the family heritage of curling because she received the curling gene from her father. Patrick, Skylar’s father, offers encouragement as well as guidance throughout her sports career.
Saskatchewan-born curler Skylar Ackerman is a Canadian. She made her debut at the Canadian U18 Curling Championships in 2018. She had just found her feet again after a bumpy start to her career. She participates in Team Ackerman and is coached by her father, Patrick.
Saskatchewan will be represented at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts because of Team Ackerman’s victory in the Viterra Scotties provincial championship in February 2024. Remarkably, this is only their second time competing in the event as a team.
Skylar Ackerman’s Parents
In terms of her parents, her father, Patrick Ackerman, is a curling coach who supports her in making decisions and moving up in her career. Throughout her sports career, he has supported his daughter at both her highs and lows. It takes skill to become proficient at the nuanced art of sweeping, particularly in a sport like curling where understanding the conditions of the ice and delivering stones with accuracy are crucial.
A positive coach-player relationship is therefore crucial. It’s fortunate for Skylar that she has that bond with her father because it will help her navigate the challenges of curling. On the other hand, not much is known about Skylar Ackerman’s mother. Perhaps because she would rather stay out of the spotlight, her personal life is kept discreet.
A Special Father-Daughter Relationship
Patrick is a highly qualified tutor from Saskatchewan, Canada, among his coaching credentials. That’s why Skylar was so happy to win the most recent competition held in their hometown. The match between Team Ackerman and the Nancy Martin rink was exciting and intense. A spectacular hit-and-roll on their final play helped them win 10-9 in overtime.
In a conversation with Global News Canada, Patrick showed his appreciation for Skylar’s early career accomplishments. He is eager to find out what will happen next.
“I’ve been Skylar’s curling coach for virtually her whole career. It’s wonderful to see someone complete their career’s initial step. “It’ll be a blast.”
Patrick, who is the youngest Saskatchewanian team to ever qualify for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, attributed their victory to years of arduous work on the part of both Skylar and the team. Skylar says that the experience of going from junior competition to women’s competition with her father has left the two of them with enduring memories.
She called the victory one of the high points of her brief career to date after it happened.
“It’s truly unique to have my father here with me, and it’s pretty amazing to win my first green jacket in women’s division alongside him.”
What would happen to the father-daughter combination after that would be interesting to observe. Skylar will go down in curling history as a Canadian icon if their early success is any guide.
