Shohei, a Japanese SMROOKIES trainee, recently revealed the K-pop idol who inspired him to pursue a career in music: EXO’s Sehun.
Presenters Sungchan and Shotaro welcomed the pre-debut trio of Shohei, Seunghan, and Eunseok in the first episode of Welcome to NCT Universe. The three talked about a variety of topics, including Shohei’s role model. He spoke about the hero who inspired him to follow in his footsteps in one powerful phrase. He stated, ”
“I wanted to be a singer after seeing Sehun of EXO…”
The SMROOKIES member responded after the hosts joked that it was just Sehun because EXO used to have 11 members but is now down to nine:
“You are correct. Everything I want is because of Sehun (hyung).”

Welcome to NCT Universe, the newest variety series, which brings together all of the NCT members (127, DREAM, and WayV) and SMROOKIES under one roof, with Sungchan and Shotaro as hosts. The show premiered on November 16, 2022, with SMROOKIES members Shohei, Seunghan, and Eunseok as guests.
Sungchan questioned Shohei’s decision to pursue an idol career at one point during the event. The 26-year-old trainee responded immediately with the name Sehun of EXO. He then stated that he met his role model once at a corporate function and had the opportunity to speak with him.
“I had the pleasure of sharing a corporate meal with him once. It appeared to be a nightmare.”
The 26-year-old would-be-idol couldn’t say much to him because he was afraid. The statement prompted hosts Sungchan and Shotaro to devise an intriguing idea. They asked the SMROOKIES member to send Sehun a video message. He was taken aback by the request, but he carried it out anyway.
“How are you doing? It’s been a long time.” This is Shohei. Sehun Hyung, you are my absolute favorite. I will always be on your side. In the future, I hope to share many corporate meals with you. “I absolutely adore you.”
After receiving a message from a SMROOKIES member, Sungchan, Shotaro, Seunghan, and Eunseok were overjoyed. This isn’t the first time Shohei has cited EXO’s Sehun as his inspiration for entering the K-pop world. Earlier this year, he told WWD Korea that he fell in love with the EXO singer at first sight after seeing his performance in the 2014 song Overdose.
The Welcome to NCT Universe episode 2 trailer, which debuted on November 17, teased an even more exciting reunion of all the NCT males. The newcomers will form teams and compete against their senior counterparts. The second episode promises a number of touching and endearing interactions between the superstars and trainees. On November 23, 2022, the next episode of Welcome to NCT Universe will air on Kocowa TV.
