MNRK Music Group, which is controlled by Blackstone, has sold Death Row Records to Snoop Dogg. According to a press release distributed by Business Wire, he will run the company as its owner for the next many years. When he released his critically acclaimed debut album, Doggystyle, in 1993, he became a part of the brand. He was also overjoyed to have acquired such a well-known brand.
The rapper expressed his joy and thanks for having the opportunity to purchase the Death Row Records brand, which he believes has “immense” value. He went on to remark that it felt incredible to own the label he was a part of at the outset of his career.
He stated,
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.” I’d want to thank the teams at Blackstone, MNRK, and especially David Kestnbaum, who worked with me for months to make my wonderful homecoming a reality. “I’m very pleased to get started on the next chapter of Death Row Records.”
The company was founded in 1991 by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C., and Dick Griffey. According to a Variety source, the singer may be able to gain song rights from the corporation.
What became of Death Row Records’ previous CEO?
Suge Knight is the CEO of Death Row Records. His full name is Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight Jr. He has previously worked with well-known West Coast artists including Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
Nonetheless, he was involved in the Eazy-death affair. E’s He was also charged after the death of The Notorious B.I.G. in Los Angeles.
Suge was arrested in 2015 for murder, attempted murder, and hit-and-run after fleeing the scene of a fight outside a Compton burger joint. He was involved in a fight with Cle “Bone” Sloan, a consultant on the Straight Outta Compton film.
Suge collided with the man and killed Terry Carter as a result of his injuries. Knight’s lawyers first argued that he was acting in self-defense when he fled the scene with two armed attackers.
He pled not guilty in 2018 and agreed to serve 28 years in prison, 22 of them for voluntary manslaughter and the rest for a third strike violation.
Knight is now detained at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County. He was transferred there on October 23, 2018, and will be released in October 2037.
