Spud was born on July 13, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, to supporting parents David Webb and Katie Webb.
The NBA legend grew up with five siblings Janice Smith, Stephanie, David, Renee, and Reginald.
His childhood was not so lavish as compared to others. Spud grew up in a low-income family where they struggled hard to make ends meet and lived in a small two-bedroom house.
Spud used to look for inspiration in anything and later found that basketball was something he loved to escape from poverty. As a result, he started playing basketball at an early age.

Early Career
As mentioned earlier, Spud showed a keen interest in basketball early on.
Although he faced many difficulties with his short height, he did not stop playing basketball. His jumping score was also relatively high than the other players.
The retired NBA player wanted to join the school basketball team but got rejected because of his short height. But with continuous practice, Spud improved his skills and joined the junior school basketball team.
In the first game with the school basketball team, Webb surprised everyone by scoring 22 points.
After joining Wilmer-Hutchins High School, he still faced the height issue. The team put Spud on the Junior varsity team, where he surprised audiences with an average of 26 points per game.
Despite performing well in high school basketball, Spud faced a lot of difficulties in finding a college. The majority of them rejected him because of his small stature.
Luckily, he received an opportunity to show off his basketball skills when he joined the Midland College basketball team ‘Chaparrals.’ Webb led the team to win the junior college national title in 1982.

Webb played for three years (1983-1985), with the university basketball team averaging 10.4 points and 5.7 assists.
Professional Career
Detroit Pistons drafted Spud in the 1985 NBA Draft. But he made his debut with the Atlanta Hawks and played for the first six seasons from 1985–1991.
In the first season with the Hawks, Webb scored 7.8 points per game. His score dropped from 6.8 to 6.0 in the 1986-1987 season.
He made a strong comeback in the last two seasons with the Hawks, scoring an average of 9.2 and 13.4 points, respectively.
After many ups and downs with Atlanta, Spud left Atlanta and joined Sacramento Kings in 1991, averaging 16.0 points per game in the first season.
He played for three more seasons, with Kings scoring an average of 14.5, 12.7, and 11.6 points per game.
After spending four years with the Kings, he left the team and reunited with Atlanta Hawks for the 1995 season.
Webb joined Minnesota Timberwolves for the 1995-1996 season. Before retiring from basketball in 1998, Spud played with two more teams, Mash J. Verona (1997-98) and Orlando Magic (1998).
In the 12 years of his basketball career, Webb played 814 games with an average of 9.9 points per game, registering 8,072 points and 4,342 assists.
Post Retirement
After retirement from basketball, Webb participated in the NBA Slam Dunk and became the shortest player in history to enter the contest.
