On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, a Missouri jury found Stephan Cannon guilty of killing retired St. Louis police captain David Dorn during riots and looting in June 2020. The jury held Cannon responsible for first-degree murder, robbery, and three counts of armed criminal action, as well as first-degree burglary of $750 or more. The lead prosecutor, Marvin Teer Jr., said:

A good man was killed, and as a result, another individual will undoubtedly do many years in prison.

Teer, though, was glad that David Dorn’s family could now move on with their lives. David Dorn’s widow Ann stated that she spent nearly three days in court to see that her late husband received justice. David Dorn was a retired police captain. She claimed that Teer did a fantastic job and that Teer was the best prosecutor the family could have chosen.

After responding to a burglar alarm, David Dorn was fatally injured

On June 2, 2020, David was killed while attending to a burglar alarm at a friend’s business, Lee’s Pawn and Jewelry. At two in the morning, robbers barged into the store, and David Dorn, 77, fought them off but was fatally wounded.

Six people have also been accused by the prosecution in relation to the incident, including Cannon, who is thought to have killed Dorn.

Before it was taken down from the network, lawyers allegedly broadcast the Facebook live video of the incident’s aftermath. Brian Horneyer, the public defender for Cannon, insisted in his opening remarks that there was no tangible proof connecting his client to Dorn’s passing.

He also asserted that the state’s star witness, who is indicted on a number of counts, admitted to investigators that he would say “anything” to get a plea deal and avoid being found guilty of murder.

The prosecution, on the other hand, asserts that Cannon was the only person there when shots were fired nearby. Following the crime, investigators allegedly found a weapon, TVs, and dreadlock shards in Cannon’s apartment. However, they were unable to find the weapon Cannon had used in his attack.

A few days later, Glasgow Village resident Cannon was detained and accused of killing Dorn. Mark Jackson, a second guy, was accused of three armed criminal acts, including first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and second-degree murder.

Brian Horneyer, the defense attorney, declared that he would file an appeal on Stephan Cannon’s behalf. He intends to file an appeal if his request for a retrial is turned down at the time of sentencing. On September 13, he is scheduled to get his punishment.
