How to Ruin Christmas actress Busi Lurayi passed away on July 10 at the age of 35. South African TV presenter and analyst Phil Mphela appears to have been the first to tweet the news of her passing.

The South African news source later reported that Lurayi passed away at her home in Johannesburg. In reaction to the allegations, her talent agency, Eye Media Artists, released a statement from her family.

The agency stated in a post on Instagram:

“We regret to inform you of our darling Busisiwe Lurayi’s passing. On Sunday, July 10, 2022, medical professionals confirmed Busisiwe’s untimely death at her residence. As we await the autopsy report, the cause of her death is still unknown.”

Also, the organization indicated that they will release additional details regarding her death as soon as they were available.

About Busi Lurayi

Busisiwe “Busi” Lurayi is most known for her starring role in the two-season Netflix comedy series How to Ruin Christmas. She portrays one of the show’s key characters, Tumi Sello.

The actress also portrayed Thandi Nguni in the ITV series Wild at Heart, which aired in 2007. Prior to her entry into television series acting, Busi Lurayi appeared in a few theatre productions.

According to her IMDb biography, the late actress appeared in approximately eight productions, most of which were television shows.

Over her 16-year career in front of the camera, Lurayi has garnered numerous honors and awards for her acting.

In 2005, she won the South African Film and Television Awards’ Golden Horn in the category of Best Supporting Actress – Television Comedy for her performance as Phumzile in City Ses’la.

Later in 2011, the deceased actor was awarded a second Golden Horn for the same performance. How to Ruin Christmas earned her the SAFTA Golden Horn for Best Actress in a Television Comedy for her depiction of Tumi Sello.

Due to her association with Netflix for the program, Netflix’s South African subsidiary also expressed condolences on Twitter following Busi Lurayi’s passing. They mentioned in a tweet:

“The South African entertainment industry has lost a brilliant star. We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Busi Lurayi, an award-winning theater and film performer.”

Simultaneously, other admirers came to Twitter to express their condolences for the late actress. Some have stated that her passing was a loss for the South African entertainment industry.

Busi’s daughter Ayana, with whom she posted countless Instagram images, survives her. According to local media, the late actress had a troubled relationship with Ayana’s father.
