Eriq La Salle, who played the lead in the movie Coming to America, hasn’t been dating or getting hitched in nearly 20 years. The actor and management consultant Angela Johnson divorced after their previous marriage.
His girlfriend is Angela Johnson
The multi-talented actor, like many of his peers in the entertainment business, wants to keep his private life private. In 1998, he openly dated and wed Angela Johnson, who was then his girlfriend. Even before they broke up, the couple had planned to be married and buy a vacation home together.
Although the reason for the couple’s separation has not been made public, given that it was announced only a few days after rumors of their impending nuptials, sources believe it was caused by a major problem.
Johnson asserted that the house was bought in her name and made a claim for half of its value after the couple separated. The seasoned actor, on the other hand, launched a lawsuit and stated that Johnson was only identified in order to preserve her privacy and that he owed her nothing.
In addition to the differences, the actor said in an interview for his book, “Law of Depravity: Revised Edition,” that he had stopped dating after Johnson and that the likelihood of him doing so again was remote.
The director acknowledged Johnson’s influence on his life and said he would always remember Johnson as a very special person in a different interview. La Salle continued by expressing his difficulty visualizing himself with a different woman because she will always be his only love.
La Salle was successful in convincing his showrunners to discontinue his on-screen romance.
The seasoned actor was well-known for playing Dr. Benton in the popular television series ER. The actor is rumored to have requested the showrunners to halt the romance between Dr. Benton and Dr. Corday, played by Alex Kingston, while he was a cast member.
La Salle made this choice because he thought Kingston and his relationship were depicted in a better light than his previous relationships with black women had been.
Additionally, he felt that depicting a multi-racial relationship favorably while highlighting only the negative features of a colored relationship was a little upsetting as an African American guy.
After La Salle and Kingston had a disagreement, the showrunners granted his request to stop their on-screen romance. The seasoned performer is currently taking a break from performing to focus on his other interests. He is currently employed by NBC’s Chicago PD as an executive producer.
