Steve Allen, a veteran broadcaster of 44 years, has announced his departure from the LBC radio station. Friday, the 68-year-old tweeted,
“My contract with LBC is about to expire and, after conversations, I’m leaving LBC today.”
It has been an honor and a joy to address you for the past 44 years.
A Global representative acknowledged the station’s longest-serving host for his “huge contribution.”
“Steve Allen’s contract with LBC will expire soon, and following negotiations with him, Steve is leaving LBC today,” the company said in a statement released on Friday.
“We appreciate his great commitment to commercial radio over the previous 44 years, making him one of the UK’s longest-serving radio presenters.”
Expiation to Tilly Ramsay
Allen began his career as a nightclub DJ before broadcasting to United Biscuits factory workers across the nation.
He joined LBC in 1979, first as the host of the Night Extra program, but is best known for hosting the early breakfast show, during which he discussed news from the previous day’s newspapers.
Allen pre-recorded his Steve Allen In Conversation programs and toured with his “audience with” stage show in addition to his live radio commitments.
He published a book titled So You Want to be a Celebrity? in 2015.
The broadcaster apologized privately for remarks made about Strictly Come Dancing participant Tilly Ramsay in 2021, which drew hundreds of complaints.
