How did Steve Dahl start his Professional Career?
Dahl moved to Chicago in the 1970s to host the WLUP morning show. In 1978, he met DJ Garry Meier, and the two of them went on to establish one of the most illustrious and divisive teams in broadcasting.
The next year, Do You Think I’m Disco came in first on the novelty records top 10. Later, he worked with keyboardist/producer Joe Thomas and Brian Wilson to write “Imagination,” the album’s lead hit, for Wilson.
Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park in 1979 served as their first practical joke. They left to take over at WLS-FM in 1981 after being fired for violating linguistic conventions in the neighborhood.
In 1984, they relocated to WLS-AM. The contract had to be suspended and legal action taken as a result of numerous missing events.
Two years later, they returned to WLUP-FM. They kept working in radio, and his career suffered in the 1990s. Steve Dahl and Teenage Radiation performed for the last time on June 8th, 1997.
