Career

Karsay was a first-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1990, and he was dealt with the Athletics on July 31, 1993, along with outfielder José Herrera, for Rickey Henderson. Karsay began his career with the Athletics as a starter, but from 1998 on, he largely worked in middle relief and as a set-up man, though he did have some notable success as a closer in 2000 with the Indians and 2002 with the Yankees.

His Injuries derailed his career, causing him to miss the 1995, 1996, and 2003 seasons (elbow surgery, Tommy John surgery, and shoulder surgery, respectively); he was on the disabled list seven times in all. Karsay finally announced his retirement on June 18, 2006, at the age of 34.

In 2012, Karsay was hired as pitching coach for the rookie-level AZL Indians by the Cleveland Indians. He was promoted to pitching coach for the Columbus Clippers, the Cleveland Indians’ Class-AAA affiliate, in 2016. On November 19, 2018, the Milwaukee Brewers hired Karsay as their bullpen coach.
