On Sunday, February 27, 2022, Governor Steve Sisolak went to the Summerlin Lindo Michoacan restaurant with his wife Kathy, and one of their children.

However, he was approached by another customer inside the venue. A popular video of the occasion shows a man approaching Sisolak for a selfie. Shortly after taking the picture, the person is overheard making disparaging remarks about the governor and his wife. The man is heard saying in the video,

The governor maintained his composure throughout the exchange, but the other party continued to insult the politician.

He also threatened to tie Sisolak to a lamppost and claimed that Sisolak was unprotected when he arrived at the scene. Without responding to the man, Sisolak exited the restaurant, but the verbal abuse persisted outside.

Eventually, the person’s identity as self-described digital designer Justin Andersch was discovered on social media. The governor’s office said in a statement to Newsweek that Steve Sisolak was deeply disturbed by the incident, particularly the racial epithets hurled at his wife. Steve uttered,

We may disagree on the concepts, but personal attacks and threats are unacceptable and unworthy of Nevadans.

The governor added that he represents all Nevadans, including those who disagree with him, and that he will keep up his service to the state. In addition, Sisolak commended the professionalism of the restaurant workers and advised Nevadans to be kind.

According to Kim Yoko Smith, a spokesperson for the Nevada State Police, the organization is “aware of the incidence and has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances.” No new details concerning the present state of the inquiry have been made public.

Since 2019, American politician and businessman Steve Sisolak has presided as Nevada’s 30th governor. He was raised in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and was born to a working-class family on December 26, 1953, in Milwaukee.

Sisolak received his high school diploma from Wauwatosa West in 1972 and his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1974. He graduated from the University of Nevada with a master’s in business administration in 1978.

The politician purportedly started working as a caddy at Tripoli Country Club when he was 13 years old. He was a part of the student government and played basketball as well. In the 5th Congressional District of Las Vegas, Sisolak ran for the position of Nevada Senate in 1996.

He was defeated at the time by the incumbent Ann O’Connell. The governor was originally elected to the Nevada Board of Regents in 1998 after working on several civic and governmental initiatives. He served in that capacity from 1999 to 2008. 2008 saw Sisolak win a seat on the Clark County Commission, and he was returned in 2012 and 2016.

He served as the commission’s deputy chairman from 2011 to 2013, and its chairman from 2013 to 2019. In 2018, Steve Sisolak defeated Republican candidate Adam Laxalt and Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani to win the governorship of Nevada.

The 68-year-old was also elected as Nevada’s first Democrat governor since Bob Miller did it in 1999. Along with his political career, Sisolak also has a successful business career. He has held a partner position at both Associated Industries and American Distributing Company.

Sisolak is reportedly proud to be a Nevadan and finds it an honor to lead the state as governor, according to his official website. By putting money into education, ensuring quality, providing access to cheap healthcare, and diversifying the state’s economy, he says he wants to “keep Nevada strong and going ahead.”

Ashley and Carley Sisolak are Steve Sisolak’s two children from his 1987 marriage to Lori Ann “Dallas” Garlan. But after divorcing his wife in 2000, the governor raised his children alone.
